Since 2015, Google Workspace for Education has been subscribed and used by UTM. Google Workspace for Education software is a group of software that combines various software such as Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Drive, Google Collaboration Tools (Docs, Sheets & Slides) and Google Meet. Originally this service was provided free of charge with unlimited storage capacity by Google to all education institution. As a result of the Covid-19 strike, Google has changed its business strategy. Effective from 1st July 2022, Google will charge license fees to all organization or education institution accounts as well as UTM. Organizations that do not subscribe to the Google Workspace entitle to have a limited services with a maximum storage space of 100TB. On top of that, other Google application facilities will also be affected.

In order to ensure high availability of email services and data security as well as to carry out various teaching, learning, research and management activities, UTM has subscribe a paid Google Workspace for Education Plus package. A new Google storage capacity limit will be imposed for each user according to user category. Therefore, all users are required to perform housekeeping for their emails, files and photos in their Google storage to ensure that it meets below the given storage limit.

UTMDigital has organized a series of roadshows with staff and students to share information regarding this Google Workspace for Education Plus. Beside that, essential steps to ensure their Google storage is below the allocated limit was shared too.
